On Dec. 19 Doug Cooper informed us that he had received a used hunting knife from Mark Beyers. Upon our return to New York City, we felt an obligation to report this incident to Home Box Office, our employer for this film. Home Box Office requested that this knife be turned over to the police in West Memphis. In our meeting with Home Box Office, we relayed our concerns that there might be traces of blood on the knife, although the blood could easily have been animal blood, since Mr. Beyers is a hunter and this was a hunting knife. However, HBO felt that this knife had to be turned over to the police on the off chance that it could be connected to the case. As a result of this meeting, we (Bruce Sinofsky and myself, with approval from Doug Cooper) sent the knife via Federal Express to Gary Gitchell of the West Memphis Police Dept.
